Sri Lanka has removed the government tourist ETA fee for nationals of 40 countries.
The change took effect on 25 May 2026 and applies to tourist ETAs for visits of up to 30 days.
Which countries qualify?
The free tourist ETA applies to nationals of:
Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belarus, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Poland, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Is an ETA still required?
Yes. The government fee is free for eligible travellers, but ETA approval is still required before travel.
The tourist ETA permits a stay of up to 30 days and allows double entry during that period. On the second visit, the traveller receives only the unused balance of the original 30 days.
Travellers arriving by air should be able to show a return or onward ticket. They may also be asked to demonstrate that they have enough money to support themselves during the visit.
ETA approval does not guarantee admission. The final decision is made by Sri Lankan immigration authorities at the border.
