Australia has increased the maximum age for certain applicants using the Working Holiday visa — subclass 417.
From 1 July 2026, eligible passport holders from the following countries can apply between the ages of 18 and 35 inclusive:
- Cyprus
- Finland
- Germany
- Republic of Korea, commonly known as South Korea
Eligible applicants can submit their application until the day before their 36th birthday.
The Working Holiday visa allows eligible young adults to spend an extended period in Australia while undertaking short-term work to help fund their stay.
Applicants must still meet the remaining subclass 417 requirements, including holding an eligible passport, applying individually and not being accompanied by dependent children.
Australia’s Department of Home Affairs is reporting higher-than-usual Working Holiday Maker application volumes. Applicants should not book travel until they receive written confirmation that their visa has been granted.
Is this the same as an Australia Visitor Visa?
No. The Working Holiday visa permits eligible work during the stay. An Australia Visitor Visa is a separate route intended for eligible tourism, family visits and other permitted visitor activities.
